While working at Reed Elsevier in 2002, I started drawing cartoons for news stories, which led to a full-time job in the illustration studio.
In 2003 I moved to a position at Nature as an illustrator and graphic designer, where my illustration styles developed. I later became Senior Art Editor across the Nature Reviews titles. In 2008, I took the opportunity to become a freelancer and set up Neil Smith Illustration. I love the work I do and it’s a delight to work for such varied clients.
My clients include Springer Nature, The Lancet, The Company of Biologists, MIT Press, Cambridge University Press, Rockefeller University Press, Workman, Max Planck Institute, Imperial College, Edinburgh University and Arizona State University among many others.
